Obverse
: Dispays the image of Queen Elizabeth II designed by engraver Jody Clark. Inscriptions: "ELIZABETH II", "AUSTRALIA", and "1 DOLLAR”.
Reverse
: Displays the wombat in its burrow. Inscriptions: “WOMBAT”, “2021”, the weight and purity, and the “P” mintmark.
The wombat becomes the third marsupial to be featured on a major silver bullion series from the Perth Mint, preceded by the Koala and Kangaroo collections.
“Wombats, short-legged, muscular marsupials native to Australia, grow up to 40 inches in length and weigh about 45-75 pounds on average. Found in shrubland, mountains, and forests, these adaptable and adorable animals are well-known all across the “land down-under”. While all species of wombat are protected in every Australian state, the hairy-nosed wombat found in the north is considered an endangered species. In eastern Victoria, where wombats are not protected, they are actually considered to be pests as these mischievous herbivores cause great damage to rabbit-proof fences and burrow deep into farmers’ fields. Although at first glance they may seem harmless, wombats can actually bowl over fully-grown human adults when startled, and their bites can really pack a painful punch.”
