    Description

FOR YOUR REVIEW AND CONSIDERATION -- A beautiful and hand painted plate by Anna Weatherly, 6.0" plate (for appetizers, small desserts/pastries/bread, small salad), created as part of the Old Master Tulips pattern
, hand painted in Budapest, Hungary and signed on the back by the artist.
The beautiful design features a bold, magnificent striped yellow/gold and dark russet tulip and a
yellow and light green butterfly with hints of russet
    and
grey dots on its wings. It is finished with Anna's signature shark's tooth gold banding all around the edge.
    Anna Weatherley is
    an international designer whose
career has included designing and manufacturing couture fashion, jewelry, home furnishings, and printed textiles. In the early 1990's she established a studio in Budapest, Hungary where she trained a group of highly talented painters to create her collection of hand-painted porcelain.
Hand-painted porcelain has a long tradition in Hungary going back almost two centuries.
All the porcelain objects in Anna Weatherley's studio are hand painted by a group of very highly trained master painters.
Only the best painters are capable of mixing the colors and painting the delicate details of her designs. Each piece is not merely a pretty painted object, but also a work of art.
The style is a classical free hand painting, but the result is not a “traditional” porcelain pattern. The number of designs are based on 17th, 18th century botanical art and are signed by the painters. This method of painting is a “dying art form,” the product of long hours of work on each object. The fine shading, the small brush strokes, the intricate details are the result of a very time consuming process. No mass produced decal design can be compared with these hand painted images.
The colors are carefully applied on the porcelain with fine brushes in many shadings and fired several times at high temperatures. This time-consuming and meticulous process in the hands of master porcelain painters produces the most detailed and sumptuous rendering of nature's treasures. Flowers, leaves, fruits, butterflies and delightful bugs are given new life on the lustrous surface of fine white porcelain.
Each painter has a distinct technique and his/her own secret way of mixing colors to create the "painting-like" effect. Women tend to be the experts in painting the charming bugs and butterflies with miniature detailed wings and legs and gold-dipped eyes. Softly brushed golden borders on the porcelain are painted by a single painter with special mastery in this special application technique. While Anna Weatherley's designs are refreshingly rooted in history, they are equally at home in contemporary or traditional settings. Her collection is sold in fine specialty shops, antique stores, and decorator studios throughout the United States.
These plates look spectacular on the table for dinner but also are wonderful hanging on the wall and also set on a small plate stand. Beautiful no matter how they are used!
This is a appetizer/small dessert/bread plate, 6.25" across at the widest point.
This piece comes out of a non-smoking home where it hung on the
wall since it was purchased in the early 1990s. I have six of these plates that I am listing so, if you are interested, please be sure and see the other ones. If you wish to purchase more than one of these, please send me a message regarding which ones you want and I will send you an invoice that you can pay that gives you an additional 5% off each plate.
