Description
Powdered hulls of black walnuts have a high tannin content. It is usually made into tinctures, infusions, and topical preparations. Great for use as a natural dye, used in soaps and hair dyes. Also used in tooth powders.The hulls have been used in history for treating skin infections (ringworm) and internal worms. The active compound is juglone (5-hydroxy-alphanapthaquinone).
Black walnut hulls have a long history of use in many things, such as cleaning airplane pistons, dynamite filler, as a non-slip agent in tires, in paint strippers, insecticides, and as an additive in jet engine cleaner.
