SDL to USB - SOARER'S CONVERTER - Clicky Keyboard Cable 6ft IBM Lexmark Model M

Description

Up for buy it now is a NEW 6ft SDL to USB Soarer's Converter cable for use with IBM / Lexmark / Unicomp Model M keyboards with detachable cables. Each lot is for a single cable shown.  Each cable is fully tested with a IBM Model M keyboard and is guaranteed to perform flawlessly.  It does not drop data, does not require additional drivers, and does not timeout after periods of inactivity.  I've personally tested these cables to work with MacOS X, Windows 2000/ME, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, and recent versions of Linux and Unix.
Here's a simplified explanation of Soarer's Converter's main features:
Conversion to USB while maintaining the original key rollover - All Model M's will keep their normal 2 key rollover when using this adapter.
Remapping - Assign any key to any other key, including ones that aren't on the keyboard, like media volume controls or the "Apple/Command/Windows" key on older keyboards like model M's.
Macros - A single key press can "play back" a series of key presses.  For example, you could set F12 to send Control-Alt-Delete or set one key to represent an entire shortcut like Alt-C for "copy" when doing copying and pasting.  If there's a certain combination move in gaming, you could set one key to perform the entire combination.
Function Layers - Changes the behavior of other keys when the function key is held down.  Think of this like adding extra "Shift" keys to add more functions to existing keys.
IfSelect - Press a key once and it permanently changes the function of any number of keys until that same key is pressed again. Think of this like "Num Lock" which changes what the number pad does.  This is also useful if you are using multiple different operating systems or applications that you want different layouts from time to time.  Pressing one key could change the function of "ALT" to the "Apple/Command/Windows" key.  It also will allow you to have several different layouts programmed for different applications.  You can even program in completely different keyboard layouts like Dvorak or Colemak and toggle between them with a single key press.

If you want to utilize the special features other than straight conversion to USB such as key remapping, macros, and layers, you will need to make a text configuration file and upload it to the converter which is most easily done in Windows.  Once configured, this configuration is stored within the cable and you can use it on any computer without the need for additional drivers or software. Please Google "Soarer's Converter" to find the original threads by Soarer for detailed instructions on how to make the configuration file and a more detailed explanation of all features.

for non-programmers
