    Description

    The M-1 steel helmet was a revolutionary design, with a removable liner housing the suspension and sizing system. It quickly became THE iconic image of the unshaven, dogfaced GI of WW2. This US Army USMC Marine WW2 SCHLUETER FRONT SEAM M-1 STEEL COMBAT HELMET is in very good condition, with faux Captain's bars having been applied in silver paint at the middle front and back crowns, likely by a boy "playing army" in the 1950s, "U.S." having been applied in matching silver paint at each lower side of the crown, almost certainly by the same boy, a few shallow spot dents in the upper front left crown, some scattered scratching and patina around the exterior and the inside, some bunching to the end of the right chinstrap under the buckle, and with some scattered age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the helmet is in fine shape, with absolutely no cracking or other damage to the tough steel construction, which retains approximately 90% of the original corked brownish OD exterior finish. Most interestingly, it boasts a front seam and swivel bales, sports the original sewn khaki web chinstraps with a fully functional "hook and point" darkened metal closure buckle, and is stamped with the heat lot number "284A" at the underside of the front lip, along with the classic "S" for Schlueter. Schlueter produced only 10% of all M-1 helmets during WW2. A fine example of a rare, original US Army USMC Marine WW2 SCHLUETER FRONT SEAM M-1 STEEL COMBAT HELMET.
