Description
The Civilian Conservation Corps was a public works program instituted by President Roosevelt during the Great Depression. A part of the "New Deal", it gave men ages 18-25 a chance to work on federal or local government projects. The CCC provided income, shelter, food, and clothing for otherwise unemployed men, and the pay they sent home helped support their families. CCC workers were issued military style uniforms, including a wool lined field cap for wear in cold weather. This Vintage Pre-WW2 CIVILIAN CONSERVATION CORPS CCC WOOL LINED FIELD CAP is in near mint condition, with only some light scattered "browning" and age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the cap is in near mint shape, with absolutely no rips, holes, tears, or other damage to the crisp "spruce" green 100% cotton duck construction. Most interestingly, it boasts the classic strap and buckle front closure, sports a warm "blanket" wool lined bill, crown, and fold down ear/neck flap, and is dated "Feb. 7, 1940" on the original "CIV-362" contract tag inside. It's a Size 6 3/8, features a matching cotton duck sweatband, and is a beautiful example of a rare, original Vintage Pre-WW2 CIVILIAN CONSERVATION CORPS CCC WOOL LINED FIELD CAP. We have shown a photo of CCC workers in the 1930s wearing similar field caps. Now celebrating over 20 years on eBay.
