UNISSUED, Mint Condition "Buckle Has Never Been Clamped Down" M1 Helmet Liner Leather Chinstrap with green painted hardware. THIS IS LIKE BRAND NEW!
This chinstrap was taken off an UNISSUED WWII M1 Helmet Liner that had been in a storage crate for decades! See pictures.
30 years ago you could find these WWII chinstraps in mint condition but they always had the buckles clamped down already. This was attached to the unissued liner but has never been buckled!
I always assumed the chinstraps were added after the liners were manufactured but one of these liners had overspray on the chinstrap which seems to show that after the webbing was riveted in the chinstrap was clipped in and then sent off to be painted. (I'm keeping the over sprayed chinstrap) We learn something new every day!
